Beneath the legendary Devil’s Elbow and steep gradients of the one-mile, six-turn Giants Despair course, the Evo X carved its way through history with precision. Piloted by seasoned driver, the car brought its rally-bred DNA to the mountain in the Unlimited class, showcasing robust power delivery and razor-sharp handling.
Under the hood, the Evo’s turbocharged 4B11 engine—augmented with Mishimoto and AMS bolt-ons—generated approximately 362 wheel horsepower, all routed through its famed All-Wheel Drive system to dominate hairpin entry and exit. The Volk-crafted Konig Hypergram wheels wrapped in Valino tires and supported by Fortune Auto dampers provided exceptional grip and responsiveness through the Esses and Devil’s Elbow.
Despite the challenge of steep cambers and off-camber corners, Boyd’s skill and the Evo X’s capable setup held strong in near-record conditions. With minor filtering showers but mostly dry roads, the Evo carried momentum flawlessly toward the finish—and its performance stood among the top contenders on course.
In a setting steeped in Hillclimb lore—where early legends like Shelby and Penske once raced—the Evo X proved modern rally monsters still belong on these storied roads. Its thunderous turbo whine reverberated across the Laurel Run valley, affirming that even on the oldest hill, the evolution of speed continues.
