The 2001 BMW M3 marked the debut of the legendary E46 generation of M3s—widely regarded as one of the finest driver's cars BMW has ever produced. Blending aggressive style, everyday comfort, and razor-sharp performance, the 2001 M3 elevated the 3 Series into true sports car territory.
Under the hood was the heart of the car: a 3.2-liter naturally aspirated inline-six (S54 engine) producing 333 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It featured individual throttle bodies, a sky-high redline of 8,000 rpm, and a visceral soundtrack that thrilled enthusiasts. The power was sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, with a SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) automatic-clutch option available.
The E46 M3 also featured a limited-slip differential, advanced suspension tuning, wider fenders, quad exhaust tips, and stylish 18- or optional 19-inch wheels. Inside, it combined luxury with performance, offering leather sport seats, subtle M branding, and high-end materials.
Known for its perfect balance, engaging handling, and high-revving character, the 2001 M3 is considered a modern classic—an ideal blend of analog driving feel and modern engineering that still excites today.
